This Thursday begins the series of talks on light pollution “Building Human Capital and Public Commitment to Strengthen the Development of Astronomy in Chile” organized by the University of La Serena.
This series of talks includes online presentations aimed at public and private organizations, opinion leaders, and the general public, in which prominent professionals and experts at the national and international level will share their knowledge on issues related to the problem of light pollution.
The objective of these activities is to offer knowledge and relevant information to society as a whole about the dangers posed by excessive lighting and its poor quality, addressing the problem from the fields of science, environment, health, culture, and recreation.
Due to the progressive deterioration of night darkness in our urban centers, it becomes essential to share the experiences and knowledge of professionals who, during the development of their activities, have studied the topic from different areas; and to alert the community about the risks and threats posed by light pollution, offering solutions that can be implemented to reverse this phenomenon.
On Thursday the 25th at 11 a.m., PhD in Astronomy Rodolfo Angeloni, from NOIRLAB – Gemini Observatory, will present the talk “Research Group for the Care of the Night Sky ULS/OPCC. I. Towards a First Spectro-Photometric Characterization of the Chilean Sky.”
The talk will be streamed on the ULS Research and Postgraduate YouTube channel at https://bit.ly/3nqeQjp
